Cheers to YOU with a Light Citrus Paloma Cocktail! A slightly different twist on the traditional tequila paloma cocktail recipe. This Citrusy Paloma Cocktail is naturally sweetened (refined sugar free) with fresh orange, lemon, and grapefruit sparkling water or light natural soda, then topped with orange peel. No refined sugar added. A perfect light cocktail for holiday brunch or parties.
3 Years ago I made this Paloma Cocktail Recipe. It was my first attempt for a “Lower Sugar and Lighter” Cocktail on Cotter Crunch. And you know what? It’s still a fav! In fact, I’ve made it 3 times in the past month and I also turned it into Kombucha Cocktail, which will come later, promise!
But for now, I would like to RESHARE this beauty! Because it’s almost a New Year, because sometimes talking about tequila and gut health can make me feel more balanced (haha), and because if you’re ever in my neighborhood, I will make you one of these Paloma’s, whether you prefer the mocktail or tequila cocktail version. Whatever is may be, the door is open!
Now, Let’s raise our glass and toast to being thankful and what feels like quickest (and craziest) year ever! I’m busting out a lightened up cocktail recipe for you. Heck, while I’m at it, I might as well tell you why this paloma cocktail (aka worlds best tequila cocktail) is healthy-ish, refreshing, and should be added to your holiday celebration. Mmm k?

Light Citrus Paloma Cocktail Recipe with Orange
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES
Light Citrus Paloma Cocktail Recipe with Orange
INGREDIENTS
- 1 –2 large Oranges (Juiced) or 4 ounces fresh juice.- Preferably cold
- Lemon or lime – Splash of juice plus extra for lining the rim of glasses with salt (if desired).
- 2– 3.5 ounces tequila blanco/silver
- 2 tbsp or more agave nectar (light)- Adjust to your liking.
- Coarse sea salt or margarita for garnishing rim glass
- Optional Ice
- Chilled 10 to 14 oz sparkling citrus/flavored water or low cal soda (Like La Croix or Bai Bubbles grapefruit that’s sugar free). See notes.
- Lemon (or other citrus fruit) slices to garnish
- orange peel to garnish and/or fresh edible flowers to garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a large container or bowl, juice your orange and lemon or lime juice.
- Mix in agave and tequila. Set aside.
- Take the sliced/cut lime or lemon wedge and moisten the rim with it. Then dip each glass in the coarse salt (if desired). Alternatively, you can also just add a splash of salt to the drink if you prefer not to dip the rim in salt.
- Next Pour the tequila and juice mix evenly into the 2 glasses (with or without ice if you prefer)
- Top each glass with Add 5-7 ounces of sparkling flavored water or low cal soda into each glass. (10-14 ounces total)
- Garnish with a spritz of lemon juice and then garnish with a pinch of orange peel and/or herbs, flowers for festive look!
NOTES
- Low Sugar Sparkling water or grapefruit soda options – La Croix, Bai Bubbles, or Izze Sparkling grapefruit are all naturally sweetened with no added sugar.
- This is easy to make in a cocktail shaker. Just combine all ingredients then top with sparkling water before serving. You can easily make 3 smaller glasses for serving. Or double! Adjust tequila/agave sweetener to your liking
- If you are using a sparkling water versus a low cal soda, then you might need to adjust the agave to sweeten to your liking. The low cal soda will be more sweet, so less agave is needed.
